About the artist
Sarah Jacky
While addressing the depiction of the environment and grappling with matters of social, geopolitical and ecological forces, Sarah Jacky developed a rich vocabulary to create landscapes and narratives creating the illusion of a weightless, spiraling universe.
In these detailed, highly-precise drawings, Jacky filters her distinctive visual language through diverse materials and mediums experimenting with drawing, photography, video and installation. With spirited investigations of the pictorial plane, Sarah Jacky begins with a seed image as the foundation and then layers colored pencils in a generative and recursive process, while also pushing the limits and possibilities of drawing.
The artist renders intricate and mesmerizing environments that focus on the many forms, appearances and outcomes of planetary urbanization and is concerned with the difficulties of representation, as well as questioning positionality, leaving the viewer connected in visual constellations that either persist or decay with time’s passage.
